Tuesday: Today is Lana's last day working at Blair Oaks. So if you go by the office, tell her goodbye. I got an e-mail today that the Chromebooks have been shipped and we shoould have them in hand by Thursday. Now I'm pressed to figure out how to make the user accounts. So I'm studying the Google Apps instructions today. I have already spent a lot of time in there but there is so much information. Again, get busy with your project because when the Chromebooks arrive, we will work on them.

Monday: Yes, I know I did not post on Friday. Shame on me!

Today I am trying to find out about and fix some problems with the new nursing program called SNAP. We also have some projectors with problems that I need to call in on and I am going to do a webinar again today with the nurse. If I don't have anything for you to do, please work on your project. Don't procrastinate. Let's have a due date of Feb. 10. That is still 2 weeks--I've given you lots of time so I am expecting awesome web sites!!! Don't let me down.

Thursday: My goal today is to read/study/learn about Google Apps and how to set it up and get it going. There is a lot more to it than I thought. Hopefully you all can help me with this when I figure out what to do. I know we need to set up accounts for all students. Other than that, it is pretty slow this time of year. Thank goodness! Wednesday: Please make sure you are using your class time to work on your project if I don't assign something else. I don't think some of you did that on Monday when I was gone. When you are ready to learn how to make the web site, you let me know. I'll have handouts ready and give you a 20 minute overview. It is very easy.

Friday: TGIF I'm sure you all get excited when you get a paycheck, it doesn't change too much many years down the road and today is payday.

Everyone is taking the DOS quiz today. I plan on trying to get them graded and on the gradebook today but no promises. You know how much my day gets interrupted. I am listening to a webinar today also.

Remember I will not be here on Monday. Please work on your career activity that I have shared with you on Google Docs. If I don't show up on Tuesday, do the same thing. I will tell teachers to e-mail Angie if they have problems and she can track you down to fix any problems. Have a good weekend and be safe.

Thursday: There will be a DOS test tomorrow during your hour. It will be very similar to the worksheet that I gave you. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me today.

I have several projects going on that I wish you could help me with--the new Nurse's program, our Google Apps for Education stuff, some core data, etc...--but you can't. So I'm pretty much glued to the computer this week.

We will be starting a new project for next week. I will explain it to you today or tomorrow because unfortunately the tooth saga continues. I now have to have the tooth pulled on Monday so I won't be here at all that day. Depending on how things go, I'll see if I'm here Tuesday.

Tuesday: I hope everyone enjoyed their extra day off. It was so warm, my husband and I took a long walk and grilled out for dinner.

I am very busy this week with core data, MAP testing uploads, Google application, and a new Nurse's program. I want everyone to get their DOS worksheet finished and I will leave an answer key for you to check the worksheet. I want you to take the test on Friday. If you have questions, or do not understand, you must ask. I will explain.

I now have a dental appt. at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. I have a tooth that has been killing me for 2 weeks and making me have bad headaches, jaw pain, etc... I am hopefully going to get it fixed tomorrow. They are working me in so it might be an all day affair. I plan on coming in at 7:30 to check e-mail and get things lined up for the day. This is why I cannot now go over the DOS sheet with you in person but will do so on Thursday if you have any of them wrong. You can text me on Wed. and if I'm able, I'll text you back. Friday: I hope everyone enjoyed their extra day off with the snow. My son tried to sleigh ride down our hill and it was ok on the first pass but then the grass was in the way and he'd have to move.

I have been approved for the Chromebooks and am in the process today of obtaining a new domain name and then applying for a Google Apps for Education account. This has to be done before I can purchase the Chromebooks. I'll let you know the progress next week.

Wednesday: I should hear from Mr. Jones today if we will be getting money for the Chromebook labs and I am going to return a call from Google about these today also. Moving along....

If I don't have anything for you to fix today, then you should continue exploring the DOS tutorial. I will be adding a few commands to your handout as we go along. I think I talked to most of you about the change directory commands of cd.. and cd\. If I did not or you can't remember, be sure to ask me. Another one I want to add is Type. Remind me to show you this DOS command. I am also looking for some Web based tutorials for extra practice. I'll let you know what I find.

Tuesday: This is a slow time of the year so I am giving you another assignment. I think that it is important that you understand DOS if you are going to have any type of career in computers. I know all of you are not, but this will make you very knowledgeable in the area. I have a handout for everyone and a very old little program that will teach you about DOS commands. Remember that at one time, computers did not have mice or a Windows interface and everything was typed into the computer as a command. You are going to learn some of those basic commands. I will get you started and work with you a little bit each day that I can to get you to understand these commands. There will be a test at the end. Have a great day.

Monday: I hope everyone had a good weekend. I have two meetings this morning. At 9 I am meeting with Mrs. Winslow about technology for her building and then at 10:30 I am meeting with Dr. Jones and asking for money to fulfill Mrs. Winslow and Mrs. Gampher's wishes. I think I will be asking for an iPad lab and a Google Chromebook lab. This will give us lots to do in the next couple of months if it happens.





I do not have a lot for you to do today so bring some homework. I will be coming up with another project very soon.

Friday: I learned a lot yesterday about the Google Chromebook and really like them. I would love to get a cart of 30 for the Middle School. I hope to talk to Ms. Gampher today about the possibility. These books are a cross between a tablet and a laptop. They do not have any operating system on them, they connect directly to the Internet. So all of your tasks are saved to the cloud and you can access it from anywhere. So you would have to use Google Docs for everything and gmail for your e-mail. There were also tons of apps that you could download for free which made it very much like a tablet. I found lots of education and fun things that could be downloaded. The cost is more than I was hoping for but we'll see how that goes with the district.

If you think any part of the school buildings was missed from our TDSS scan, please let me know. I'll be e-mailing the teachers today to have them do their own. We might have to help some of those who are scared to try things.

Thursday: I almost forgot to blog this morning. I'm on my way to Columbia for a workshop on Google Chrome Books. I'll let you know what I learn.

We need to finish the scan of student machines. You may need to communicate with each other because I didn't get to talk to a couple of people yesterday to see what they finished. This is what I think still needs to be done:

Devun & Ben work on the basement of the elementary. There is a lab down there so I think it may take almost 2 hours.
Caleb work on the upper level of the Middle School. Do everything but the lab. I would like for you to do all the PC's in the office there also.
Curtis--you were working on the hs library and I don't know where you stopped so finish up the library.
Alex--Work in Ms. Mitchell's room. Do all the open pc's before they go to lunch and then you can finish.
Grant & Emily work in the MS lab getting all those pc's finished.
Kellen work in Mrs. Sharon Buschjost room and do all those pc's.

Wednesday: It is always nice starting school half way through the week. I hope everyone had a great Christmas break and that Santa was good to you. I really enjoyed lots of family time.

We are going to be scanning all of the student PC's over the next couple of days for a virus root kit that has hit our school. The FBI identified us to Morenet and Morenet contacted me. I have already found it on one of the PC's in the HS and one in the MS. I will be gone tomorrow to a workshop in Columbia on Google Chrome Books. I will leave a list on the blog at the end of today to let everyone know what they need to do tomorrow--probably scan pc's. :)
