September 28, 2010 part 2

Here is a teaching moment for me and a learning one for you. A MS teacher's pc came into the office today that has a pop-up window that says Microsoft Security Essentials has found a trojan on this pc and it shows where the trojan is located. We tried doing a restore point and restore was disabled probably by this program. There is such a thing as MSE but we didn't install it so immediately I'm suspicious that it is a virus in an of itself. I googled the title and found an artilce that explains very well how this works. I want ALL of YOU to read this artcile: http://news.softpedia.com/news/New-Scareware-Displays-Fake-Microsoft-Security-Essentials-Alerts-156892.shtml Then read the comments at the bottom of it because it explains how to get rid of the "scareware". That is a new term for you that I want you to understand. When you find a problem on a PC that you don't know how to fix, always look it up on the Internet because you will find an answer--may not always be the first thing you look at, but you'll find it. After you read this article, post a comment that you have read it.
