December 17, 2010

Friday: Hope you all enjoyed your day off yesterday. I personally was hoping to have school because I hate giving up days in the Spring. I also needed to get core data done because it was due on the 15th and today I got a letter already telling me I'm late. Yippee! Be sure to look at the Google Docs to review for your test and to turn in your web site. Have a good weekend.

December 15, 2010

Wednesday: Check your Google Docs as I have shared 2 documents with you. One is the study guide for the semester exam next week. The other is a document that you need to copy and paste the URL of your website into so i can find it on the web and grade it. Sorry, I didn't get a rubric to you but if you have all the things I listed on the instruction sheet, you will be fine. Hope you enjoyed the project some and learned something on how to create web pages.

The goal for the rest of the week is to get all the LCD projectors clean and take care of any little problems. Please blog and say who's rooms you went to and cleaned the filter or whatever else you did.

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

December 14, 2010

Tuesday: Don't forget websites are due tomorrow. I will be creating a study guide for the final and sharing it with you through google docs. Expect it by Wednesday. Also before the end of the quarter you need to get the filters cleaned on the LCD's in your assigned classrooms. I have a list on the back table for you. I'm working on December core data for the rest of this week as my primary focus. :)

Monday, December 13, 2010

December 13, 2010

Monday: The weather is so cold, I am going to try to keep everyone in the building today. So hopefully we don't have any major problems and you can work on your website. These are due on Wednesday. Also this week I am giving you a list of classrooms to visit to clean out the filters in the LCD projectors. A few of you have done this. If you have not done this, PLEASE tell me and I'll show you how to do it so you don't ruin any projectors. When in doubt about how to do something--ALWAYS ASK!

You will be having a final next week. I will ask you questions that you will have to type the answers to. I'll let you know in the next couple of days the exact things to know. Stay warm.

Friday, December 10, 2010

December 10, 2010

Friday: I am participating in a webinar again today and have physical therapy this afternoon. I will have a schedule on Monday for you of the rooms you are assigned to clean the LCD projectors in. We need to do this several times a year to keep the projectors running. Have a good weekend. Don't forget your website is due on Wednesday.

Thursday, December 9, 2010

December 9, 2010

Thursday: I had a webinar this morning and another one tomorrow morning. :( Just a little boring. I am making a list of projectors for each one of you to clean next week. It should go pretty fast and you will probably only have to do it a day or two. We need to blow out the filters or else the projectors will overheat. This should be done probably more than 2 X's a year but that is what I aim for.

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

December 8, 2010

Wednesday: I am working hard to finish up core data. I am down to 0 errors but still have lots of warnings. I hopefully will get to a good point today so that I can certify it. I'm sure you don't understand but that is a huge deal. I've been working on this off/on since mid-October.

Websites are due December 15 so make sure you are making progress on that. I will look for each component that I told you needed to be there. I'll try to give you point values by Monday.

Monday, December 6, 2010

December 6, 2010

Monday: Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. It is time for me to get back to Core Data reporting this week. I have ignored it for 2 weeks doing other things and I'm have to get it done before Christmas. If you don't have something to do, work on your web site. Don't forget that these are due December 15.

Thursday, December 2, 2010

December 3, 2010

Friday: I will be gone for 2 appointments today. One for physical therapy and the other to see the doctor. If I am not around during your hour, please work on your Google Sites Web Page. I want to know what or who you are creating your page about. Get me the info! Have a good weekend.

December 1, 2010

Wednesday: I know some of you helped me with the School Messenger mailing but most of you went out and about so please report what you did on Wednesday. (I know I'm late posting the blog but not one person reminded me. :) ) I will not post a blog for Thursday because everyone helped with the School Messenger mailing on Thursday and it is done. Yippee!!! Now to get it to the post office in a timely manner.

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

November 30, 2010

Tuesday: My dr's appointment has been moved to Thursday so I'm here all day. We are about caught up with issues from me being gone but we need to get the lab and library ready for EOC testing. The practice test is today and the real thing in next Tuesday. We will concentrate on that 5th hour today. Remember your projects. I'd like for you to let me know who your group or artist is this week so be thinking about it.

If I send you out during your class and you don't see me at the end and you don't have time to blog, please text me and let me know if you were successful and if you got the job done so I know whether to send someone else in the same day. thanks!

Monday, November 29, 2010

November 29, 2010

Monday: Sorry I haven't been around much, my body is showing its age and I ended up in the hospital for some emergency surgery on Tuesday. I have several dr appointments this week and have to start therapy so bear with me and try to look for notes on what to do. I'll try to keep you informed as much as possible. When I'm not around, work on your website. I had some other things to tell you but I keep getting interrupted and have forgotten at the moment. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break and is ready to finish up the semester with energy!

Thursday, November 18, 2010

November 19, 2010

Friday: I am not here today but I am expecting everyone to start researching for their web project. Stay in the lab and help anyone who asks. Please do not wonder the halls or go in someone else's classroom. You will get me in trouble and then I'll have to send you some place when I am gone. Have a great weekend.

Tech Tidbit

VERY IMPORTANT: Do not plug both ends of a cat 5 cable into the same switch or hub or even into a wall jack. The creates a loop that will take the entire network down. This happened on Wednesday and no one could get on the web at all--thus all the lunch computers were down, e-mail, etc... I know this was an accident but be very careful!

November 18, 2010

Thursday: AJ, Scott, & Conner--you all need to get your gmail account set up and send me an e-mail pronto. I can't share my document with you for the assignment until you do. Once you send me an e-mail and I share with you, you will get an e-mail from me with the document info or better yet, just click on the documents link once you login to Google and there will be the shared document I have sent to you. Your assignment is there. You should first spend a couple of days finding information to put in your web site. Gather pictures and information about your artist or group. Then you can start planning and preparing the web site. This can be done from home or school. This project will be due around December 15.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

November 17, 2010

Wednesday: Please make sure you have your google e-mail account set up before you come to class tomorrow. I want to go over with you the google doc I'm going to share and the assignment. I want you to work on that on Friday when I am gone. If you have not converted your video to a flv file yet, please do so today. The swf file worked ok but we couldn't start and stop the video. With flv you can.

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

November 16, 2010

Tuesday: We are having trouble today with Netsweeper Business that is installed individually on each pc. We can delete this little program because I filter at the router/server level now. I just didn't take it off before because it wasn't hurting anything. But today, it broke! This is causing some of the computers to not be able to go to some websites. I will give you instructions on how to take this little program off and we will visit all the student computers in the elem, ms, and the hs library. My lab will have to be done sometime soon also.

HOMEWORK: I need everyone to create a Google e-mail address. The project we are going to do is going to require this. Once you create the account, e-mail me at lori.kempker@gmail.com. Once I get your e-mail, I'll be sharing a document with you that has your Google assignment on it. Lets get this done by Thursday so I can be sure to get you the assignment before I'm gone on Friday.

Monday, November 15, 2010

November 15, 2010

Monday: I'm thinking about your next assignment and it will be using Google--Google docs, forms, web, and e-mail. I am going to have each of you create a web site using Google sites. If you have a strong desire to create a web site about something specific, let me know. Otherwise I will be giving you some tech topics. I will try to have the assignment information for you by Wednesday.

Friday, November 12, 2010

November 12, 2010

Friday: TGIF I'm going to try to continue on core data today. I have some sound issues I want some of you all to try to fix in the HS and other places. I picked up some sound splitters last night that had been backordered for ever.

November 11, 2010

Thursday: Veterens Day--Short schedule today because of the assembly and early release. We can still accomplish small things in 20-30 minutes. I am spending the afternoon, undisturbed, on Core Data. yeah!

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

November 10, 2010

Wednesday: I'm heading to Columbia in just a few minutes. I don't have any e-mails this morning from anyone needing help. I would like 2nd and 4th hour to continue working on the MS lab. Everyone else make sure you can get on Google Docs. You should be able to use the login and password that you use with this account. I am going to be giving assignments using google docs, calendar, and web. Take a look around and experiment a little. If I get e-mails while I'm goin, I'll text whoever is in class that hour.

Tech Tidbit

Sometimes a computer makes noises when it starts up or is trying to startup but never does. Mrs. Crawford's pc was giving me 3 long beeps and wouldn't show anything on the screen. There are websites that will tell you what the beep codes mean. When the computer starts up it is running a post test and the beep codes result from a failure in that post test. I want everyone to go to this website: http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm and read the Post ABC's and the Steps of a Post. Then scan down the document to see what the beep codes can mean. The 3 long beeps indicated there was somthing wrong with the memory so I shut the machine down, took out the memory and put it back in. The computer booted right up. Simple fix if you know where to look for help.

November 9, 2010

Tuesday: Well, I bought a new laptop for home last night. I'm pretty excited. It is a Toshiba with an i3 processor, 4 gb of RAM, web cam etc... And I only paid $450. I have been watching the sales and feel this is a good price for what I'm getting. I'll let you know after I get it going. We have the MS lab to get updated today and a few other items that need to be tended to. Have a good day.

Oh yea, I will be gone tomorrow, Wednesday. I will be in Columbia at Dreamweaver training. This is to learn how to use the new program for updating the website. I will leave a note on my PC monitor with instructions or on the blog. I'll see how far we get today with stuff.

Monday, November 8, 2010

November 8, 2010

Monday: I am in Columbia this morning for a meeting at Morenet and will be in around noon. I got a call on Saturday from Mrs. Gampher that they were in the MS Lab for a workshop and a lot of the computers were giving error messages for Vixera and Windows updates. If you are finished with your video, please go to the MS and turn OFF clean slate and start doing Vixera updates and try Windows updates. The Wind updates may not go, and that's ok but we need to get Vixera going correctly. Whoever goes over there first needs to start a list on a piece of paper and record which machines you finish so the next group knows what is done. If you need to finish your video, do that first. I don't know if today is a green or white day so the lab may be full anyway, but check it out. You can text me if you need to. I should be able to respond. Have a good day.

Friday, November 5, 2010

November 5, 2010

Friday: Everyone should get their videos finished up today and converted to a .swf file for the web. There is a folder on the C drive of the computer in my room called Video Exports that you should make another folder inside of with your name on it and put your final product on. I will work on getting those on the web next week. Or should I say Zach will. :)

November 4, 2010

Thursday: A little behind on the blogging today. Several meetings and webinar in the morning put me way behind. Working on getting a mailing out to all parents about School Messenger. I may be putting you all to work helping get that out next week.

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

November 3, 2010

Wednesday: Remember your videos are due on Friday but I want to look at them to give you suggestions so you get a good grade. I will be gone a 1/2 day on Monday for a meeting in Columbia on our Internet services and all day on Wednesday for some web development training. I hope to have the next project ready some time next week.

Good luck to the football team! Bring home a victory.

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

November 2, 2010

Tuesday: My goal today is to get letters out to all faculty and staff regarding our new School Messenger web interface. I will then move to core data. I want you to make sure you have your video's done by Friday and I want to look at them and give you suggestions before you turn them in. If I don't look at them, don't be upset if you have points taken off. Tell me if you need class time to and I'm sending you some place. lk

Tech Tidbit

I am going to start writing Tech Tidbits in here when I want to tell everyone about something or how to do something new. Sometimes I tell one or two of you and then I get busy with other problems and forget. So you are responsible for reading these and trying to remember them but you do not have to respond to them.

Here's something new I learned today: There is an error log that can help you figure out why a machine is acting up. If you right click on My Computer, go to Manage, then event viewer, then system, you will see the system logs. Here you can find red X's with error messages and yellow ! with warnings. These can be helpful to why a machine is acting up. I found a machine in Mrs. Buschjost's room that keeps shutting down and there were multiple error messages about Vixera. This could be the problem with sudden shut downs. You should find a machine and see if you can find this log.

November 1, 2010

Monday: Hope everyone had a great weekend and you got your fill of candy. I would like video projects to be completed this week. Have me look over them when you think you are about done so I can tell you what to add or how to finish them up. Everyone should use an entry title and subtitle if it is hard to hear you or you think they need further instructions. Put credits at the end with your name. I want to give the cameras to the other school soon.

Friday, October 29, 2010

October 29, 2010

Friday: I did not blog yesterday because I was at the Dr.'s getting an injection in my shoulder. Surprisingly it did not hurt at all. I'm sore today but all is good. Hopefully it will do the trick or else I have to have surgery. YUK! I've been catching up on e-mails and teacher requests for this and that today and some of you took care of minor problems for me so we are caught up as of 7th hour. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

October 27, 2010

Wednesday: Before I forget, I will not be here on Thursday. I have to go to Columbia to have an xray and injection in my shoulder. I have bone spurs and swollen tendons. Yeah!!! Not looking forward to that. Anyway, everyone work on your video project on Thursday. It is a short day because of early out but you still have a good 35 minutes or so to work. Make them good!!!

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

October 26, 2010

Tuesday: I've spent my entire morning working with a technician at School Messenger setting up a new system for us to use. There is still a lot for me to do but I'll get it going pretty soon I hope.

Please be sure to give specific details in your blog. Who did you see, what did you do (specifically), where did you go. I like you to list the things you tried even if they weren't successful and of course what you did successfully. I'll be pickier this quarter.

Monday, October 25, 2010

October 25, 2010

Monday: I hope everyone had a great 3-day weekend. I did! Shopping in St. Louis on Friday and went to the Mizzou game on Saturday. What an awesome experience that was. I'm still tired from it all. My week needs to be all about core data. I will send you out if we have problems but other than that you should be working on your video project. Everyone will put their video into Movie Maker and add titles and such to enhance it. I'll help you with that if you need it. Have a good week.

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

October 19, 2010

Tuesday: I am going to be glued to my pc over the next several weeks working on the October core data report. Yipee!!! It is very frustrating and a long process but I'll prevail. Create an outstanding video for me.

October 18, 2010

Monday: Oops, it is the new quarter and I had forgotten to blog--but not one of you said a word. It is a short week with some of you out for ACT prep week so we will work on our flip video projects mostly. Not a lot of complaints lately from anyone regarding computers. Have a good week.

Friday, October 15, 2010

October 15, 2010

Friday: Last day of the 1st Quarter. My the year is flying by. I can return your buying computer projects today so ask me for it if I forget to give it to you. Tell me today what topic you are going to use to do your flip video on. Only one person per project. We will work on those starting today and next week. Have a safe and relaxing weekend.

Thursday, October 14, 2010

October 14, 2010

Thursday: Be sure to pick up a flip camera assignment from me today. I started grading the last project and some look really good. A few of you didn't quite follow the directions and get all the info on paper you needed. I'm hoping that you learned something about looking for a new computer and the difference in processors, speeds, and what you are getting for your money. I have someone ask me what to buy for a new computer about every week. I don't really like making recommendations in case they don't like the computer or it has problems down the road. Have a good day!

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Important Question

Who took a computer to the MS nurse's station and switched it out for the one you carried over? The real question is, what did I have you do with the computer you took out of the nurse's station? She needs some files and we can't find them. Please answer either way.

October 13, 2010

Wednesday: I have an outline for what I want you to do with the flip cameras. I will give that to you on Thursday. If I don't mention it to you, be sure to ask. This will be the first project for 2nd Quarter. I will be looking at the blog this week sometime for a grade, so be sure you are up-to-date.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

October 12, 2010

Tuesday: I am beginning my marathon of doing the October Core Data. I will be glued to spreadsheets and the DESE on-line core data site for the next couple of weeks until I get all the bugs worked out and the information clean for certifying. I will come up with a project for you all later this week or early next. I'm thinking of something with the new flip cameras I bought. Otherwise, things are pretty quiet.

Monday, October 11, 2010

October 11, 2010

Monday: I'm collecting the projects that you were assigned last week today. Make sure you turn it in. I looked through the ads this last weekend and Staples had a very good HP brand laptop for $479. It had an i3 Intel processor and 4 gb of memory if I remember correctly with Windows 7. Also, if you had a working WinXP or Vista pc that you were willing to trade in, they would take $100 off. I was trying to talk my husband into us buying that because we have a computer that I could trade but he didn't see the urgency of spending $400 at this moment. I'm sure there will be some good deals between now and Christmas. Hope everyone had a good weekend. I did and it went by very quickly.

Thursday, October 7, 2010

October 7, 2010

Thursday: Reminder that project is due on Monday. I am leaving today at 11:30 to take my son to the doctor and I will not be returning. Carson, at this moment I don't have anything for you to do. Connor, I talked to you in the hallway and you can work on Mrs. Baker's project. Any spare time should be used on your project that is due Monday. See you tomorrow.

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

October 6, 2010

Wednesday: I did forget to blog yesterday since I was at the conference so we will just skip one day. I would like for you to have your projects done by Monday, October 11. That will give me next week to check them. I will also check back over blogging to give a grade on it next week, so be sure you are keeping up.

The conference was good and we may try using Google apps and you all be my guinne pigs. It is something I'd like to see the whole school go to. Have a great day.

Monday, October 4, 2010

)

Monday: Hello, I'm blogging from TanTarA at the Lake where my conference is. I checked my e-mail when I got here and there aren't any e-mails from teachers or principals with problems. So, check in with Angie in the office and if she doesn't have anything for you, hang out in the lab and work on the assignment that I gave to you on Friday. Hope everyone had a fun and safe Homecoming weekend. I'll blog again tomorrow morning (hopefully). See you on Wednesday.

Friday, October 1, 2010

October1, 2010

Friday: Happy Homecoming! Hope all of you have a safe and fun weekend. I'll be teaching the rest of you to make Cat 5 patch cables today and giving you your assignment for next week when I am gone. I will post some time during the day Monday and Tuesday because I'll have a laptop with me. You can text me anytime if you have questions. Also, check in the office to see if they have anything for you to do. later gators....

Thursday, September 30, 2010

September 30, 2010

Thursday: I am going to start teaching everyone how to make Cat5 Patch cables. I started with some of the afternoon people today. So if I forget that I haven't taught you, please remind me. FYI: I will be gone Monday and Tuesday. I will have an assignment on the blog for you on Monday. Please read it Monday and follow the directions. You can sit in the lab and work on it or if it is full, in my office.

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

September 29, 2010

Wednesday: I am going to try to get some odds and ends wrapped up with different things I have started and haven't finished. We'll see how that goes. Your worksheets are due tomorrow so turn those in to me--even if I don't ask! Have a great day!

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

September 28, 2010 part 2

Here is a teaching moment for me and a learning one for you. A MS teacher's pc came into the office today that has a pop-up window that says Microsoft Security Essentials has found a trojan on this pc and it shows where the trojan is located. We tried doing a restore point and restore was disabled probably by this program. There is such a thing as MSE but we didn't install it so immediately I'm suspicious that it is a virus in an of itself. I googled the title and found an artilce that explains very well how this works. I want ALL of YOU to read this artcile: http://news.softpedia.com/news/New-Scareware-Displays-Fake-Microsoft-Security-Essentials-Alerts-156892.shtml Then read the comments at the bottom of it because it explains how to get rid of the "scareware". That is a new term for you that I want you to understand. When you find a problem on a PC that you don't know how to fix, always look it up on the Internet because you will find an answer--may not always be the first thing you look at, but you'll find it. After you read this article, post a comment that you have read it.

September 28, 2010

Tuesday: One of my goals today is to work on our School Messenger system. This system will automatically dial home phones or cell phones when we have a school emergency or announcement. The whole system needs to be overhauled so I'm going to figure out what we need and then contact their customer support and see what I have to do. The calls for support are getting to be less and less so we will start learning some new stuff soon I think.

Monday, September 27, 2010

September 27, 2010

Monday: Hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine went by too fast as usual. I would like everyone to finish and turn in the packet I gave you about computer history by Thursday this week. I will be gone on Monday and Tuesday of next week and I'll give you another project for those days. Have a good Homecoming week.

Friday, September 24, 2010

September 24, 2010

Friday: My goal is to clean my desk off to some degree today. There are a few problems I've already got lined up and we'll see what else comes along. Have a great weekend.

Thursday, September 23, 2010

September 23, 2010

Thursday: I noticed that some of you have not blogged for every day of the week. I will be giving a grade on blogging. I'll scan back through and see who is missing their blogs and deduct some points. It is very important for you to blog every day. If you forget, go back and do it the next day.

I'm doing training after school today for all the secretaries in the district on how to use some tools in PowerSchool. So most of my day is going to be devoted to getting the materials ready for them to hand out later today.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

September 22, 2010

Wednesday: I have an on-line webinar at 11:45 today with DESE about reporting special services in Core Data. Core Data is a big part of my job and requires me to sit at my computer for long periods--way too long of periods. October is a huge core data month and I'll be very aggrivated before it is all over. So bear with me through those cranky days.

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

September 21, 2010

Tuesday: I sent out an e-mail yesterday asking if any teachers had problems we needed to attend to and I did get several e-mails back. So we will work our way through that list today and tomorrow.

Please be sure to put the tools back where they belong and clean up any work area so that CD's, screws, etc... aren't lost and our counter doesn't look trashy. thanks!

Monday, September 20, 2010

September 20, 2010

Monday: I am going to focus on some PowerSchool things I need to do, like create the new attendance conversions for this school year, fix some permenant record label problems the secretaries told me about recently, and prepare for the October core data reporting that I have to do. I could work on the core data from now until November probably. Most of you will finish taking your computer apart and puttting it back together except Conner who is starting that today.

Thursday, September 16, 2010

September 16, 2010

Thursday: I decided today to get a few different projects going. Within the next week each of you will be taking a computer completely apart and putting it back together. This gets you familiar with how the parts go in and out and that the inside of a computer is not so scary. I will also be giving you a packet to read and some worksheets to fill out as you read it on the history of computers and a little about the Internet. I want you to be well-rounded individuals and know a little bit about as much as possible when it comes to computers. It is not difficult material and some of it is dated but usually history and the nuts and bolts of how computers work does not change. You will work on this packet when we have down time from computer problems.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

September 15, 2010

Wednesday: I'm late blogging for today so you will have to remember what you did on Wednesday. I've been busy with getting two of the cafeteria computers set up so that I can log into them remotely and set them up to share a program they use for their recipes and menus. I've also worked on some billing issues from software we needed to renew and purchases we've made this year. Mr. Holtmeyer has brought his classes in today for a 15 minute overview of PowerPoint that I am also giving. The day has flown and I need to spend time on ordering more equipment. :( Hope you have a good evening.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

September 14, 2010

Tuesday: I have a webinar from 9-11 on troubleshooting the new Promethean boards that we are installing in 6 of the HS classrooms. I'm in the middle of it now and it is getting long. I still haven't graded your quizzes but it is on my list for today. :) We are going to get the HS lab ready for EOC testing which will not be until the beginning of Dec. but I need to know now if the computers can't handle the task of an entire classroom testing at the same time. Eventually all students will test over the computers.

Monday, September 13, 2010

September 13, 2010

Monday: Hope everyone had a good weekend. I was very busy with sports for my 9 year old. He had 4 soccer games and 2 football games and I went to the Mizzou game which was boring because they were winning by so much. We are going to concentrate on getting the MS lab all up and running. It is having lots of error messages from Vexira and such so probably about everyone will spend time there today. :)

September 10, 2010

Friday: TGIF. Why does a 4-day week seem longer than a regular week some times. This has been crazy and stressful week with me missing several hours taking my son to the dentist several times. But all in all, we got a lot done and kept up with the requests. A few odds and ends today and hopefully delivering a few machines and all will be good. Everyone have a safe weekend and see you Monday.

Thursday, September 9, 2010

September 9, 2010

Thursday: Everyone will have a short quiz today over IP numbering, finding the right screen, and device manager. We will finish up a few computers to be delivered tomorrow because it is supposed to rain most of today. I'll have another assignment for you to work on over the next week with a quiz next Thursday or Friday.

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

September 8, 2010

Wednesday: I will be coming in late today because my son is having his teeth worked on after his accident last week. I don't have any new e-mails for work that needs to be done. Caleb and Devun, you can have a study hall 2nd hour and probably Zach 3rd hour also. I should be back by 4th hour. See you soon.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

September 7, 2010

Tuesday: Hope everyone had a great weekend. We were productive at my house with reseeding the yard and trimming etc... We will work on getting some PC's reformatted or set up to put in classrooms today and tomorrow. Remember you will have a quiz on Thursday!!!

Friday, September 3, 2010

September 3, 2010

Friday: Well, another week down. We were pretty productive this week and some major things have been marked off my list. We got Mrs. Lackman's Promethian board hooked up this morning and I fixed the sound for Mrs. Farris. We will deliver some pc's today and see what else is on the list. Hope all of you have a relaxing and fun 3-day weekend. See you Tuesday.

Thursday, September 2, 2010

September 2, 2010

Thursday: Everyone will have a quiz next week. You need to be able to tell me how to get to Device Manager and how to get to the screen to put in IP addresses. You also need to memorize the subnet mask, gateway, all 3 DNS numbers and know the numbering scheme for IP addresses. Ex: 10.10.4.xx numbers go to which building and for what group of people. Monday is a holiday so we will plan on the quiz on Thursday.

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

September 2, 2010

Wednesday: Well, yesterday afternoon was eventful. My 9 year old son fell at school and busted a tooth out, broke another, and loosened a third. So, I'm way behind for the day and need to stick to my pc to get some core data done from summer school and still research ordering some equipment for the special services department. I'm hoping you all will get some pc's ready for other buildings in the next day or two and then on Friday we will deliver.
Have a great day!

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

August 31, 2010

Tuesday: I am going to try to stay at my computer for part or all of the day because I am very behind on updating the web page, making some changes in PowerSchool, researching and ordering some new equipment that I need to get etc... If we have all of our little problems taken care of, we will be getting some additional computers ready to distribute to teachers who want them.

If there are snacks--like animal crackers--on the back table, you are welcome to help yourself to them. I know everybody wants a little snack during the day. You are also welcome to bring a snack into my office during your hour and eat it. Please just don't eat in the lab.

Monday, August 30, 2010

August 30, 2010

Monday: I am trying to catch up on little things that I need to get done and didn't get done last week, like changing some classes for elementary teachers in PowerSchool, ordering replacement remotes, new wiring, etc... I'm also troubleshooting problems with the new Promethian Board in Mrs. Holtmeyers room and a Mimeo in Mrs. Crawford's room.

Friday, August 27, 2010

August 27, 2010

Friday: TGIF!! Well the first week is almost over. Seemed long but probably because of all the problems we are still trying to fix. We are going to move some old pc's out of my lab and into the basement and deliver a few more and then next week we can get going on getting some others reformatted and ready for classrooms. Hope everyone has a safe and relaxing weekend.

Thursday, August 26, 2010

August 26, 2010

Thursday: Well it is 3rd hour already and I've taught Mrs. Abel's 1st hour how to login and save to their J drive along with some do's and don'ts for the lab. I've gone to Mrs. Weber's room at the MS and talked to Smart Tech about her problem, then uninstalled all the SB stuff, downloaded the new and started the reinstall. Then I went to Mrs. Dixon's room at the Elem and checked her Add/Remove Programs window and uninstalled McAfee Antivirus and Norton Antivirus. We don't own these and they probably installed on their own when she visited some website or downloaded something. Having 3 antivirus programs can cause a machine to go slow as well as a bunch of toolbars in IE. Now I'm going to catch up on e-mails and see who else needs help.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

August 25, 2010

Wednesday: Still trying to catch up with teacher requests and "demands" from all over. Blog on a daily basis and let me know what you have done today.

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

August 24, 2010

Tuesday: Welcome to a new school year and to all the new Independent Computer Students. I just want to see who is logged in and ready to start using this. So respond to it as soon as you see this. Hope you have a great year!

Monday, May 10, 2010

May 10, 2010

Monday: Final review information:
Know the Gateway, subnet mask, and DNS numbers by heart;
know the groupings for the IP addresses like 10.10.2 is for all teachers (what is .3, .4, and .5 used for?);
why do computers have tcp/ip numbers?;
if a computer has a virus, what can you do to clean it;
if a computer cannot print, what steps would you take to diagnose the problem;
why is it necessary to keep Windows updated?;
what is the ping command used for?;
We have 5 contexts, what is each one used for?
a pc cannot connect to the Internet, what are at least 3 things you can check?;
a pc has a virus, what steps would you take to clean it?

Thursday, May 6, 2010

Thursday, April 29, 2010

April 29, 2010

Thursday: Most everyone will be working on their PowerPoints for me today. I will create a folder on the I drive for you to copy them to and then I'll put them on my pc on Monday. They need to be on the I drive in the Independent Computers folder by Monday.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

April 28, 2010

Wednesday: I am going to be doing 2 webinars today on how to use the new School Messenger software. They have changed their website and how to use this so I'm taking the admin and user training, both today. Make sure you are making progress on your PowerPoint.

April 27, 2010

Tuesday: Oops, I forgot to blog. I spent the day working with the new nurse and showing her how to use PowerSchool and e-mail and also getting a new workstation set up in the elementary nurse's office, among other things. What about you?

Monday, April 26, 2010

April 26, 2010

Monday: Only 3 more Mondays for me to drag myself out of bed. :) I don't usually count down to the end of school because I work part-time during the summer but this year I am and there are only 20 days of school left for the underclassmen and much less for the seniors. Yipee!

I have an assignment for you today. Be sure to pick it up from me.

Friday, April 23, 2010

April 23, 2010

Friday: I will have an assignment for you on Monday that you will be doing on the computer--looking at some information about hardware and then creating a PowerPoint from it. It will be due the following Monday. Just a heads-up.

Thursday, April 22, 2010

April 22, 2010

Monday: Happy Monday, be sure to blog today and every day!

Friday, April 16, 2010

April 16, 2010

Friday: TGIF again! Only 5 more Fridays left, only 4 for the seniors. We will be working on going through the piles of PC's in my area to determine good from bad and then move them out next week.

April 15, 2010

Thursday: Happy Tax Day! I know you all found the driver for the network card for the Intel Motherboard that I assigned yesterday. You do not need to blog today.

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

April 14, 2010

Wednesday: ASSIGNMENT: Here is a real scenario that I want you to fix: There is a computer that we reformatted and the network card is not working because there is not a driver installed for it. I took the cover off and the network port is part of the motherboard. The motherboard has a stamp on it that says INTEL Mother Board D875PBZ. YOU need to go to the Intel web site and download the driver for the network card for a Windows XP computer. I want you to do this as I am watching. You will save the driver to a thumb drive and then load it to make sure that it works. Do this on Thursday or Friday--pin me down to get it done!

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

April 13, 2010

Tuesday: Don't be like Adam (sometimes Jilli) and write stupid comments to me! Keep up the blog so you don't have to make stuff up (Adam!).

Monday, April 12, 2010

April 12, 2010

Monday: What a great weekend it was weather wise. I worked in the yard all day Sunday--too bad you really can't tell. Back to school---Lets get all the computers formatted we have left this week and take the old ones to the basement while the weather is good. That's the plan.

Friday, April 9, 2010

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

April 7, 2010

Wednesday: Sending everyone to different places so blog and tell me where you went and what you did.

April 6, 2010

Tuesday: Not one of you reminded me to blog. Shame on you!!! Now you have to catch up. Tell me exactly, I mean exactly what you did today.

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

April 1, 2010

Thursday: Happy April Fools day! I won't be here today so everyone should finish or work on your cleaning list for the elementary. Hopefully we will be done with that early next week. Have a great Easter break. See you Tuesday.

March 31, 2010

Wednesday: 3rd hour we are going to move some computers, 5th hour is going to tackle some printer issues that teachers are having, 6th hour is going to go back to inventory for a day or two, and 7th hour is going to visit a teacher on another problem. Describe what you did today.

Friday, March 26, 2010

March 30, 2010

Tuesday: Comment to me on which rooms you cleaned today so that I know what you got done in your 50 minutes.

March 29, 2010

Monday: I am gone Monday and Tuesday for a PowerSchool conference in KC. The air compressor and cart have been moved over to the Elementary School and it is located in the library storage closet. Be sure to take a screwdriver over there and if you forget, borrow one from the office. I am leaving a list in my office, taped to my monitor of the rooms you should clean. We will divide them up and get it done very quickly before MAP testing begins. You can text me if you have questions next week.

March 26, 2010

Friday: TGIF!! We are going to work on moving old pc's out and replacing some of those at the Elementary. We will move more on Wednesday of next week.

Thursday, March 25, 2010

March 25, 2010

Thursday: Since it is raining, we will stay in the HS--except Jilli and Adam. Matt and Evan are here today helping out because they are off school. They are working on reformatting some pc's that we can move tomorrow. I'll let you know what you need to work on.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

March 24, 2010

Wednesday: I am trying to get some of the PC's in the back of the lab formatted so that we can place them on Friday. That is one of my goals for the week.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

March 23, 2010

Tuesday: I probably won't be there today as my son isn't feeling well again. Please text me at the beginning of your hour and I'll let you know what you need to do.

Monday, March 22, 2010

March 22, 2010

Monday: I'm hoping to finish cleaning the MS and inventorying the Elem within a couple of days. We will then move the air compressor to the Elem and finish up in a short period of time.

Thursday, March 18, 2010

March 18, 2010

Thursday: Today is an early release day so we won't be tackeling to long of jobs. I have a few errands that need to be run. Have a great 3-day weekend.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

March 17, 2010

Wednesday: Happy St. Patrick's Day! I am working on storing grades and getting report card formats ready for all 3 buildings. What did you do today?

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

March 16, 2009

Tuesday: I am moving all of the H:\Apps folders and software to a new drive called the I drive. I am doing this because the H drive is always full and causes problems for us when it reaches capacity. The I drive will only be available for you when you login as techadmin and it should be available for teachers. The reason I make it available for teachers is really so that you and I have access to it if we are working on a teachers pc. Then we do not have to reboot to get to that drive and ask them for their password. I logged in as techadmin to make sure it was there and it is. That is the only thing we will have on the I drive right now. Have a great day!

Monday, March 15, 2010

March 15, 2010

Monday: Today is the first day of the 4th Quarter and some of you didn't do so good blogging. It is worth 300 pts per quarter. So, I suggest that you put blogging on your radar every day!

March 12, 2010

Friday: What did you do today?

Thursday, March 11, 2010

March 11, 2010

Thursday: Be sure I have your podcasts in the H:/Apps/Audacity folder by Friday. I will listen to them then. I will be keeping everyone busy over the next several weeks for sure. Be sure to blog every day!

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

March 9, 2010

Tuesday: I'm focused on core data today. I'm hoping you all will get some cleaning and inventory done.

NOTE: There is a folder on the H:/Apps drive called podcasts. I want each of you to save your podcast there so that I can listen to it and give you a grade by Friday. Please let me know when it is there.

Monday, March 8, 2010

March 8, 2010

Monday: Well, I'm BACK! Hopefully for good. We have lots to catch up on and finish as the days will fly by from here on out. Please stay in touch on the blog because you ARE getting a grade on it.

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

March 4, 2010

Thursday: Be sure to blog!!!

March 3, 2010

Wednesday: let me know what rooms you visited today.

March 2, 2010

Tuesday: Well I saw a few of you today when I was here. Please remember to stay in the lab at the end of the hour until the bell rings. Do not get yourself in trouble by wondering the halls. I'll be back on Thursday. Everyone should have something to do, if not, text me and I'll call you back. Watch for notes on my monitor or the window in the office....I thought you might see them there better (Adam). I will be back Monday for good...I'm planning on it anyway.

Sunday, February 28, 2010

March 1, 2010

Monday: Still hanging out at the hospital. I think I talked to everyone on Friday about what I want you to do. But to recap: The seniors are going to work on the inventory using the netbook...talk to each other about what buildings/rooms still need to be visited. The juniors are going to start blowing out all the pc's in the HS. Ryan and Zach you take the main hall and down to the gym and show area. Dallas, you have the upper hallway from Keys/Hague's room to the library. Please do not disturb a class if the teacher is lecturing. Keep track of the rooms you have visited on a piece of paper and report it to me on the blog. Seniors--you report on the blog also. I'll be in on Tuesday, late morning as I have to stay late for some training that day. I will go ahead and creat blog space for Tuesday and Wednesday. Everyone should blog if I have a day there and I think you can even if I don't. :)

Monday, February 22, 2010

February 22, 2010

Monday: Well I guess you all heard that my 8 year old son is in the hospital. It looks like I'll be out all week again. I would like for you all go get the rest of the computers that are in the lab under the white board reformatted. Then when I get back, we can distribute those to where they need to be. Reformatt then add the memory (it is in my office), load novell client, office 2003, vixera, flash, acrobat reader, and I'm sure there is something I am forgetting. Please put a note on each machine when you finish it that it is finished and place back on the floor. If you cannot reformat one for some reason--PUT A NOTE on it so that I know what is wrong with it when I get back. gotta run, the dr's here. i'll post more later.

Thursday, February 11, 2010

February 11, 2010

Thursday: i am home with a sick child but plan on coming in this afternoon sometime. Since we didn't have school on Tuesday, you can use Thursday to work on your podcast. I'll look at them next week Tuesday when we are all back in school. text me if you have problems or questions.

Monday, February 8, 2010

February 9, 2010

Tuesday: I am gone to a conference today and tomorrow. Each of you needs to work on putting together a podcast. Look at my instructions that I gave last week on the blog. I will check progress on Thursday. Check the blog for other instructions in case someone needs help. Be good!

Friday, February 5, 2010

February 5, 2010

Friday: Today is my daughter's 20th birthday and she is celebrating in Spain--what a deal! We are going to get back to reformatting the pc's that were in the lab so we can get them in the classrooms and get my lab cleaned up.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

February 4, 2010

Thursday: I will be gone next week Tuesday and Wednesday. One of the things I want you to do while I am gone is to create a Podcast. To create the podcast, you will have to use the software Audacity. It is installed on my pc and you can install it (free download if you want to do it at home) from the H:/Apps drive onto any pc in the lab or use the laptop in my office. Also in the Audacity folder on the H:/Apps drive is a document called Audacity Quick Reference that will explain how to use the software. (headsets are in my office) Also, in the same folder is a document called Creating a Podcast that has the instructions for your assignment. It first has some web sites that you can go to and listen to other people's podcasts. I am telling you this now so you can get started on it. I want an outline and 50% of the podcast recorded by Thursday, Feb. 11.

February 3, 2010

Wednesday: We are getting caught up a little on problems around the district. Let me know what you did today.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

February 2, 2010

Tuesday: I'm hoping that the influx of infected machines is slowing down. We need to finish Mrs. Mitchell's classroom today but we have 2 more computers to reformat in there. I want to get back to reformatting and adding memory to the machines that we took out of the computer lab so that we can get them delivered and out of my area.

Monday, February 1, 2010

February 1, 2010

Monday: Hopefully this week will be better with less pc's getting infected and us doing less reformats in the classrooms. The morning didn't start out that way though with Coach Holtmeyer calling me before school even started and he was infected. We'll see how the week goes. Mrs. Buschjost just came in and one of her student computers has it also. :(

Friday, January 29, 2010

January 29, 2010

Friday: TGIF! Question of the day: You must always create at least 2 users when you are reformatting or setting up a new machine. What is the one user every machine must have on it? I guess there are bonus points for the first to answer because everyone else can copy. :) The reason I'm asking is because I found a pc in Mitchell's room with no users on it. Bad! They can be added but it is just an extra step that causes me or someone else more work. Let's do it right the first time. If you don't know, ASK!!!

January 28, 2010

Thursday: Someone needs to remind me to blog if I haven't, just like I often remind you. Way too many problems today. I know everyone was busy but you still have to write about what you did.

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

January 27, 2009

Wednesday: By the end of the day, everyone should have learned how to make an Ethernet cable or patch cable as I often call them.

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

January 26, 20101

Tuesday: If I have time today, I'd like to teach you how to make your own patch cables. If not today, one day this week.

January 25, 2010

Monday: Sorry I didn't blog on the right day but you can fill this in on Tuesday. We seemed to get a lot done despite the cold temperatures. I did not get one paper yesterday that was due. They need to be handed in today!!! We have a couple of machines to get going and then we'll continue to reformat the pc's from the hs lab.

Friday, January 22, 2010

January 22, 2010

Friday: I have a big upload due to DESE today so I'm stuck at my pc until that is done. Remember you have a paper due on Monday. We will deliver some pc's on monday also if weather is permitting. Today we need to finish up some odds and ends and get some cables to a couple of places. Have a great weekend.

Thursday, January 21, 2010

January 21, 2010

Thursday: I have fought with the harddrive from Ms. Rich's pc for two days and I'm just going to reformat it. The problem is that I couldn't salvage any of her documents off of it. Oh dear!!! Remind teachers to back up files on a thumb drive or cd if they are important.

January 20, 2010

Wednesday: It was a busy day with a webinar in the morning and several computers with virus. Don't forget that you have a paper due on Monday.

Friday, January 15, 2010

January 19, 2010

Tuesday: I am gone today taking my daughter to the airport for her semester studying abroad. Your assignment for today is to find a full-length article on the Internet or in a magazine about a new or emerging technology for computers, laptops, or cell phones. You must then write a review of the article: typed, 3/4 to 1 page in length, 12 pt. font, 1 inch margins, etc... meaning you can't make the print 20 pts so you don't have to write much. Copy or print the article and staple it to the review that you wrote. I must also know the exact source of the article. You can work on this today and it is due on monday, January 25. You may have to finish it outside of class time. Be good and stay in the lab.

January 15, 2010

Friday: Happy Winterfest! We are going to try to get a few computers delivered today unless it starts to rain. Hope you all have a good and safe weekend.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

January 13, 2010

Wednesday: I have spent the morning working on grade cards and fixing errors with that whole process in PowerSchool and now I am loading software on a machine from mrs. mitchell's and mrs. schmidt's rooms. someone will get to return them later today.

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

January 12, 2010

Tuesday: Today wasn't quite as hectic as yesterday but still plenty to keep us busy. Let me know what you did today.

Monday, January 11, 2010

January 11, 2010

Monday: Well, with all the snow and days off school, it feels like we are just coming back from Christmas break...kinda are since we only had 2 days of school last week. I am deep into PowerSchool with grade cards and such and will be busy all day today with that. We will work on problems as they come and reformatting and distributing the computers that are in the lab.

Make it your New Year's resolution to blog daily. I do take a grade on it and will be tougher 2nd semester.
